To set up an integrated legislative system of technical standards and regulations for food products congruent with the provisions of the Islamic law (Sharia), recognized regional and international legislations, to ensure tighter controls on food safety and to protect consumer health.

• To set up technical standards, regulations, and circulars for food products
• To contribute to the development of draft laws, regulations and bylaws.
• To contribute to the development of draft food technical standards and regulations, such as the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO), the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO), the Standards and Metrology Institute for the Islamic Countries (SMIIC), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the Codex Alimentarius commission (Codex).
• To participate in the general and technical committees of the regional and international organizations related to the food standards, follow up its activities, make comments on draft standards and build effective working relationships with these organizations.
• To participate in the World Trade Organization activities (WTO) in particular the sanitary and phytosanitary measures (SPS) and Technical barriers to trade agreements (TBT).
• To follow up laws, legislations, standards and recommendations issued by the countries and accredited scientific bodies.
• To supervise the task forces that draft the technical regulations and standards.
• To set up draft standards.
• To license private food laboratories.
• To license food safety Programs provided by private institutions for food business operators.
• To register and license food safety Certification bodies.
• To license Food product advertisement.
• To license private centers for food consultations.
• To ratify GMP certificates.
• To raise awareness of standardization of food products standards in coordination with the relevant authorities
