SFDA Compels Potable Water Factories to Use Covered Transportation Means
2015-11-14
SFDA compelled potable water factories to use transportation means that are covered from all sides by insulating material in order to minimize the effect of the direct heat and sun rays on water.
This action was taken after the transfer of the responsibility of potable water factories control to SFDA as of 1/4/1436H. It was noticed that most of the potable water factories violate the requirements of transportation and distribution of potable water by using exposed transportation means for distribution of their products, thus exposing water bottles to severe weather conditions e.g, direct sun rays leading to endangering the safety and characteristics of the product.
SFDA sent a circular to all potable water factories compelling them to distribute their products by using special means of transportation, specially designed for this purpose, that should be covered from all sides and contain insulation material to minimize the impact of direct heat and sun rays on the product during transportation. However, it should be considered that the insulation shall maintain a certain, suitable temperature.
SFDA gave a grace period for the factories to cover all their potable water transportation vehicles, while it will monitor compliance of all factories with these requirements. Any violations to this shall be dealt with accordingly, including destruction of the violating product.
