SFDA Prevents "Partially Hydrogenated Oils"(PHOs) in the Food Industry and Gives a Period to the Manufacturers to Comply with the Saudi Technical Regulations

SFDA called the food importers and manufacturers for the commitment and adhere to the requirements of the Saudi Technical Regulation No. SFDA.FD 2483/2018 Trans Fatty Acids (Trans Fats) which stipulated prohibiting the use of "Partially Hydrogenated Oils" in the food industry.
The Executive Director of Communication and Awareness Administration in SFDA, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Sultan, clarified that this procedure is according to SFDA authorized functions, issued in the Royal Decree No. (M / 6) dated 25/01/1428 AH, to keep the Authority's approach for following up the international developments, especially the safety of food products and the impact on consumer’s health, to complete the Authority's efforts to prevent the use of trans fats in food products in line with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), and to avoid the consumption of food products that contain high amounts of trans fat which may cause serious health problems such as Cardiovascular diseases.
Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Sultan added that SFDA has granted the importers and manufacturers a period, its dead line is 31/12/2019, referring that the Authority will take the formal procedures in case of non-compliance.
