The Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), H.E. Dr. Hisham S. Aljadhey, today launched an Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (SAIL) at the LEAP 2025 conference. The laboratory will serve as a specialized center for the development and implementation of artificial intelligence technologies, aimed at enhancing innovation and optimizing regulatory and operational processes within the SFDA.

The launch of SAIL underscores the SFDA's commitment to advancing technical innovation and exploring AI applications in its areas of work. The lab analyzes proposed ideas based on feasibility and data availability, providing recommendations for broader implementation if they meet the required criteria, thereby accelerating the integration of technical solutions.

This initiative marks a significant step toward incorporating AI technologies into the SFDA's operations. SAIL provides a dedicated space for developing and testing technical solutions tailored to the Authority’s specific needs. It will also foster collaboration with external partners and specialized tech companies to enhance technical expertise and knowledge sharing. Furthermore, it will contribute to developing national talent by providing skills training and capacity building in the field of AI, positively impacting the efficiency of work within the SFDA and enhancing its ability to address evolving technical challenges.

Through this initiative, the SFDA aims to enhance its position as a leader in utilizing advanced technologies for health regulation, keeping pace with technological advancements and encouraging creative thinking to achieve its strategic objectives.
