The SFDA Participates in the 30TH Session of the Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Program entitled" Codex Alimentarius"

The SFDA, represented by Prof. Ibrahim Al Mohizea, Vice President of Food Affairs, and Dr. Salah Al Miman, the Food Sector advisor, participated in the Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards 30TH Session which took place during the period 2-7, July, 2007 in Rome. The Session entitled "Codex alimentarius" was attended by other delegates from Saudi Arabia headed by Mr. Nabeel Ameen Mula, the General Director of the Saudi Standards and Meteorology.
Both Prof. Al Mohizea and Dr. Al Miman had the opportunity to look at the nature of periodical Codex meetings. It also helped them to share expertise and information with experts from different countries specializing in the field of food.
The Session compromises a number of activities where crucial decisions were made such as validation of standards, election of chairpersons, vice-chairpersons and members of the executive committee as well as appointment of regional coordinators. It also focused on the relations between the Codex and the other international organizations. In addition, the Codex Session included listing the countries responsible for appointing the Codex Committee chairpersons and mission teams.
