SFDA: Childhood Obesity—A Growing Risk, Prevention Begins at Home

2025-03-04

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) is raising awareness about crucial health practices to prevent childhood obesity, aligning with World Obesity Day on March 4th. In line with its mission to promote health awareness and prevent diet-related diseases, and in support of the Health Sector Transformation Program of Saudi Vision 2030, the SFDA emphasizes the critical role of families in safeguarding children's health.

The SFDA's awareness campaign highlights the importance of establishing healthy habits within families. It urges parents to encourage children to replace sugary drinks, such as soft drinks, with water and natural fruit juices, and to significantly reduce fast food consumption, a key contributor to weight gain and related health issues.

Furthermore, the SFDA advocates for healthier cooking methods, such as grilling and roasting, over frying. Recognizing the alarming global rise in obesity rates, the Authority emphasizes the necessity of higher community awareness to address this growing challenge.

These initiatives reflect the SFDA's commitment to fostering a healthier generation and promoting a preventative health culture, thereby mitigating the long-term adverse effects of childhood obesity.
