The SFDA Organizes a Workshop for Training Seminar on Medical Devices Accident Investigation

Cooperating with the ECRI ( the Emergency Care Researches Institution) , the SFDA organizes a workshop for Training Seminar on Medical Devices Accident Investigation from 23-26/1/1428H, 11-14/2/2007 in Riyadh. D. Mohammed bin Ahmed Alkanhal the designate chief executive officer of the SFDA
declared that the SFDA has signed a contract with the ECRA to establish a center for receiving notifications of medical devices problems and accidents in the K.S.A. It aims to communicate with hospitals, companies dealing in medical devices field and their manufacturers and similar international monitoring organizations, and exchange information related to medical devices problems and accidents to ensure reforming and calling medical devices in need and withdrawing technically defected ones from hospitals to discontinue using them. He added that this workshop is included within a number of workshops that train work groups of this center, and ensured that this center is the only one in the Middle East which will enable the hospitals in the K.S.A to notify about medical devices problems in order to have suitable technical solutions. Moreover, it will make the SFDA able to study and approve technical solutions which will be proceeded by companies before applying them.
D. Saleh bin Sulaman Attayar, the general director of medical devices sector in the SFDA confirmed the importance of the workshop to the work group which has been chosen from among long experienced engineers and medical devices specialists- that work in different departments in the K.S.A main hospitals- because it will enable them to view the most modern ways of Training Seminar on Medical Devices Accident Investigation.
He added that the institution is unique as it has been established from more than 42 years and several medical devices monitoring authorities will benefit from its experiences. It worth mentioning that medical devices include medical equipments and instruments, laboratory diagnostic substances and devices and devices that are implanted in human body and their attachment.
D. Alkanhal expressed his thanks and gratitude to medical sectors that cooperate with the SFDA and he mentioned that the notifications center will offer several services for government hospitals such as: data bases of comparing different medical devices techniques and names of devices that have been called or warned in other countries. Also it will receive notifications of medical devices problems and accidents from hospitals, companies and medical devices factories.
At the end of his speech, d. Mohammed bin Ahmed Alkanhal ensured that the SFDA is concerned with the cooperation with government and private authorities in order to serve this generous country.
