2025-08-20

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI). The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation between the two organizations in the field of medical devices, focusing on advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and biotechnology for diagnosis and treatment.

A delegation from AAMI, led by Chairman of the Board of Directors Mr. Walt Rosebrough, visited the SFDA headquarters in Riyadh. They reviewed the SFDA's work and efforts in the medical devices sector, and met with several officials.

The agreement was signed today, Wednesday, by Eng. Ali Al-Dalaan, SFDA's Vice President for the Medical Devices Sector, representing the authority and Mr. Robert Burrows, Executive Director of Learning and Development, who signed on behalf of AAMI.

The MoU outlines several areas of cooperation, including the development of medical device standards and related activities, the exchange of technical and scientific information, and the provision of expert consultations. The two sides will also coordinate on educational programs, joint events, and participation in international technical committees.

As a recognized global leader in developing national and international consensus standards on medical device standards and a trusted source for scientific information and training, AAMI applies global best practices to advance the medical device industry. This partnership aligns with the SFDA's commitment to collaborating with international organizations to develop policies and build technical capabilities, supporting the goals of the Health Sector Transformation Program, a key initiative of Saudi Vision 2030.
