KSA to Host Meeting of Global Harmonization Working Party (GHWP) of Medical Devices

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), an affiliate of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is set to organize the 25th annual two-day meeting of the Global Harmonization Working Party (GHWP) of Medical Devices, via video conference, on Tuesday, it was reported today.

The meeting will be chaired by the CEO of SFDA Dr. Hisham bin Saad Al-Jadhey, and attended by GHWP President, SFDA Executive Vice President of the Medical Devices and Products Sector at SFDA Eng. Ali Al-Dalaan, as well as heads of regulatory bodies in member states and local and international businessmen and manufacturers of medical equipment.

During the meeting, the organization will share its strategic plan for the years 2021-2024, Eng. Al-Dalaan said, adding that the discussions will also include the follow up of the work of the scientific and technical work teams, and their most prominent achievements, approving the important decisions related to the organization’s mission, including the launch of the new identity of the organization and endorsing users manual of medical devices in emergencies (EUA) and the approval of amendments to the statute of the organization (House Rule), and the organization’s “Terms of Reference”.

Eng. Al-Dalaan confirmed the participation of several non-member international bodies and associations such as Japan, Australia, Europe, the World Assembly of Manufacturers of Diagnostic Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Devices, the World Health Organization, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the Global Medical Device Nomenclature (GMDN), the Asia Pacific Medical Technology Association, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Pan American Network on Drug Regulatory Harmonization, Africa Medical Devices Forum (AMDF) and the Global Medical Technology Alliance (GMTA).
