SFDA Takes Part in 4th IHFAF Meeting

His Excellency the CEO of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority(SFDA), Dr. Hisham bin Saad Aljadhey, today, Wednesday, headed the SFDA’s delegation participating in the 4th Annual Meeting of International Heads of Food Agencies Forum (IHFAF) hosted by the Republic of Ireland, represented by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI), under the title "Crisis Preparedness and incident management in an increasingly complex global food system”

H.E. Dr. Aljadhey chaired one of the main forum sessions, which was titled “Crisis Communication and the role of transnational systems”. In the session the participants reviewed best practices in communication during crises from the perspective of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), and the European Union”s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF), in addition to the communication system on risks and crises of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)

Through its sessions, the IHFAF discussed many related topics, including systems for identifying risks and emerging threats, lessons learned from previous crises and planning, and crisis and risk communications.

IHFAF aims to share strategic directions and discuss food issues with global repercussions, in addition to identifying potential areas for cooperation and integration to ensure food safety.

IHFAF, which is considered the first of its kind in the world, is among the achievements of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in which it highlights its pioneering role, as the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) adopted the establishment of this forum in cooperation with Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) and Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI).
