On Thursday, May 1, 2025, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) held a workshop titled “Responsibilities and Role of Food Safety Officers in Promoting Internal Self-Monitoring within Food Establishments.” The workshop was inaugurated by the CEO of the SFDA, His Excellency Dr. Hisham S. Aljadhey, and attended by a number of specialists and representatives from food establishments.
The workshop addressed several key topics, including the critical role of Food Safety Officers in enhancing internal self-monitoring systems; the importance of equipping them to identify risks and implement corrective actions; and their role as a key liaison between food establishments and the Authority in tracking regulatory updates and ensuring compliance.
The workshop also included a review of the “Guide for Requirements of Appointing a Food Facility Officer,” which is published on the Public Consultation Platform from April 23 to May 22, 2025. Emphasis was placed on the responsibility of food establishments to ensure the safety of their products, particularly in light of preparations for the Hajj season, during which the SFDA will intensify inspection campaigns and enforce relevant regulations without leniency.
In his remarks, Dr. Aljadhey reaffirmed the SFDA’s continued commitment to holding regular meetings with Food Safety Officers as part of its efforts to promote direct communication and strengthen food safety measures across the food sector.
The SFDA's workshop underscored the vital role of Food Safety Officers in upholding food safety standards within establishments, with the aims to further elevate food safety practices.
