SFDA Launches "Traveler's Permit for Controlled Drugs" Service at LEAP 2025

2025-02-12

The Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), H.E. Dr. Hisham S. Aljadhey, today launched the "Traveler's Permit for Controlled Drugs" service at the LEAP 2025 conference. The new service was unveiled at the SFDA pavilion. This initiative aims to enhance the travel experience for individuals requiring controlled medications while ensuring appropriate oversight.

The service enables travelers arriving in or departing from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to declare their possession of controlled medications in advance. By submitting the required documentation, including details on the type and quantity of medication, as well as the duration of stay, through the Electronic Controlled Drugs System (CDS) at https://cds.sfda.gov.sa/, travelers can obtain the necessary permits. Applications will be reviewed and processed according to established procedures. Upon approval, travelers can present the permit to relevant authorities at ports of entry and during their stay in the Kingdom.

This service strengthens the oversight and monitoring of controlled drugs, working in conjunction with relevant government authorities. It ensures adherence to local and international travel regulations and prevents misuse, restricting transport of these drugs to authorized individuals or their designated representatives.

Furthermore, the "Traveler's Permit" service simplifies the declaration process, creating a clearer and more efficient experience for tourists. This contributes to a smoother entry, stay, and departure, ultimately enhancing Saudi Arabia's appeal as a leading global tourist destination, in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
