H.E. SFDA President, Dr. Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Kanhal welcomed HRH Prince Sultan bin Mohammad bin Saud Al Kabeer, Chairman of Al Marai Board of Directors, last Thursday 3/6/1431 AH at SFDA Head Office. HRH Prince Sultan viewed SFDA Sectors, activities, goals and objectives and procedural, execution and control and monitoring tasks performed by SFDA to ensure safety of food and drugs for the use human beings and animal, safety of biotic and chemical products electronic products impacting human health at food, drug and medical devices level. H.E. SFDA President accompanied HRH Prince Sultan in a tour to the various SFDA Sectors. Prince Sultan paid a visit to Food Sector and viewed a visual presentation showing development of food imports control program, its objectives, evaluation and scope of development. HRH has also viewed Early Warning Center and immediate alerts of food and their role, the role of food packing and wrapping laboratory in detection of food contamination resulting from packing & wrapping and associated damage that may transfer to the food. HRH then moved to Medical Devices Sector and viewed the national medical devices register and its role in monitoring technical faults that may cause health problems to the patients through the national center for medical devices reports and the standards of medical and diagnostic devices and their safety
In the Drug Sector, HRH listened to a comprehensive description of Drug Sector's functions and role in ensuring quality and effectiveness of drugs and their suitability, which will guarantee in the next two years a high level of drug quality. HRH had also viewed the sector's investigation role of the safety and suitability of cosmetic products, SDR system and Saudi Drug Manual that serves doctors and provides them with available drugs in the local market, and regulating mechanism of herbal drugs in Atara stores and the roles of drug safety and alerts department.
HRH has also viewed the important role of IT Sector in providing the necessary information to SFDA supervisors to take them easily to the inspection sites through "Google Earth" software, in addition to the technological and information role conducted by SFDA IT Sector.
At the end of the introduction tour H.E. SFDA President presented a memorial Shield to HRH Prince Sultan bin Mohammad bin Saud Al Kabeer, whereas HRH praised the significant role of SFDA in safety and security of food & drug for human beings as well as animals.
