H.E. Dr. Hisham S. Aljadhey, CEO of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), affirmed that Saudi Vision 2030, which outlines an ambitious future for the Kingdom, is built on three key pillars: a vibrant society, a thriving economy, and an ambitious nation. He noted that the Kingdom has launched several national programs to help achieve these goals, including the Health Sector Transformation Program, which aims to enhance human health, improve access to healthcare services, and shift the focus from curative to preventive care.
This came during His Excellency’s participation in the 72nd Session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean (RC72), which is being held in the Arab Republic of Egypt from October 15 to 17.
Dr. Aljadhey highlighted that the Kingdom, represented by the SFDA, has implemented several key initiatives to promote community health, such as reducing sugar and salt content in foods to improve their nutritional value, banning the use of hydrogenated fats, and supporting the availability of innovative medicines for treating serious diseases.
He expressed his pride in the strong partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), which culminated in the SFDA’s designation as a collaborating center in several areas, including medical devices, nutrition, and food safety. He also emphasized the joint efforts in training and strengthening legislative and regulatory capacities, which reflect Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and its mission to place people at the heart of development, with health as the foundation of prosperous and stable societies.
