2026-04-22

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) recently showcased its efforts in supporting the research, development, and innovation (RDI) at the World Creativity and Innovation Day Exhibition. Hosted by King Saud University’s Innovation Center at Entrepreneurship Institute, the event—themed “Innovate Today… to Shape the Impact of Tomorrow”—was held from 21 to 23 April 2026.

The exhibition served as a forum, uniting the SFDA with key national stakeholders, including the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, the Research, Development and Innovation Authority (RDIA), and the Digital Government Authority.

The SFDA’s participation reflects its commitment to prioritizing research and innovation within its strategic agenda. In its regulatory capacity, the Authority supports innovators by fostering a creative environment and increasing awareness of the regulatory frameworks governing these sectors locally and internationally.

At the exhibition, the SFDA highlighted several initiatives designed to drive innovation. Among these, the Innovative Medical Devices Initiative which provides technical and regulatory guidance, clarifies marketing authorization requirements, and ensures compliance with essential regulations.

Additionally, the Breakthrough Medicines Initiative seeks to accelerate the delivery of advanced therapies and expand patient treatment options. By enabling earlier access to innovative treatments, this initiative directly supports the Health Sector Transformation Program, a key pillar of Saudi Vision 2030.
