The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) is launching today in Jeddah the "Smart Shopper" campaign.
The campaign aims to increase the level of awareness among community members and children, especially about healthy food and its safety, introducing the correct methods of choosing products, educating them about safe shopping, in addition to clarifying some nutritional claims.
Nuts contain a number of beneficial nutrients, and eating certain amounts of them as part of a healthy diet is good for human health, but sometimes eating them may be a source of food pollutants.
The Saudi Food and Drug Authority recommends buying nuts from reliable places, and avoid buying them from street vendors because of the possibility of poor storage conditions that contribute to the growth of fungi such as mycotoxins (aflatoxin).
While the number of people wishing to go out and eat or cook outside home is increasing, some people practice wrong behaviors that may affect food safety. A number of important guidelines are being recommended to be followed to protect against food contamination and risks of diseases caused by contamination.
