SFDA warns about Cosmetics containing high percentage of lead

2011-12-27

Within the framework of cosmetics monitoring program, SFDA collected and analyzed several samples of facial makeup products of different trademarks to ensure that they are free from heavy metals and bacterial contamination

Analysis proved that three of the samples are contaminated with high percentage of lead, exceeding the allowed limit in GSO 1943/2009 Standard Specifications. SFDA addressed the concerned authorities in order to recall these products from the markets and ban their entry to the Kingdom.

​In the presence of CEO of SFDA Dr. Hisham bin Saad Aljadhey, the authority has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for cooperation with the Centre for food safety, University College Dublin, Ireland, in the fields of food and microbiological monitoring risk, whole-genome sequencing and biological information as well as exchange information related to food.
SFDA has represented by Dr. Saleh Aldosari, Vice President of Food Sector while the UCD has represented by Professor of Food Safety and Zoonoses, Séamus Fanning.

Gulf Accreditation Center Renews Accreditation Certificate in the Inspection of Bottled Water Plants for SFDA

SFDA has renewed the accreditation certificate in the inspection of bottled water plants as a result of annual evaluation for the administrative and technical inspections according to ISO / IEC 17020: 2012 in the field of accreditation.
SFDA was the first government agency that obtains the accreditation certificate from Gulf Accreditation Center, after achieving the standards and requirements of inspection bodies in accordance with the international standards and accreditation requirements center.

Saudi Arabia Chairs AHWP

The Asian Harmonization Working Party (AHWP) has selected Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), to chair the Party's current session until 2020 after members voting.
Eng. Ali Al dalaan, Vice Executive President for Medical Devices Sector at SFDA, was assigned as Chairman of the AHWP for the coming period.
AHWP is one of the largest parties in the world, which specialized in global harmonization for medical devices.
