The Food Sector held a workshop about "WTO Agreements and Their Effect on Food Trade" in collaboration with the UNDP on Tuesday 5.2.2008 at the SFDA office in Riyadh. The workshop instructor, Dr. Mohsen Helal, addressed several WTO agreements with special focus on the Sanitary and Phytosanitary measures (SPS) and the Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT).

نظمت الهيئة العامة للغذاء والدواء ممثلة في قطاع الدواء برنامجاً تدريبياً لنظام تقييم ملفات المستحضرات الصيدلانية الإلكترونية ( EURS is YOURS ) وذلك خلال يومي السبت والأحد 16-17/2/1429هـ ، حيث قام قطاع الدواء بدعوة عدد من المتخصصين من شركة Extedo الألمانية لإلقاء محاضرات تعريفية عن هذا النظام والذي يتم من خلاله تقييم ملفات تسجيل الأدوية المقدمة إلكترونياً، وقد تقدم قائمة الحضور في ذلك البرنامج سعادة نائب الرئيس لشئون الدواء و مدير وموظفو إدارة التسجيل وبعض أعضاء اللجنة التحضيرية.

A delegation of Environment and Health Affairs Committee that belongs to Majlis Ash-shura has visited the SFDA on Tuesday, 10-3-1429H, headed by the committee president Dr. Mohsen bin Ali Alhazmi. The delegation has been received by His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Ahmed Alkanhal, the Acting Executive President of the SFDA, sectors presidents and general directors in the SFDA. During the visit, an explanatory show about the SFDA plans and strategic goals has been illustrated.

The SFDA represented by its food and drug sectors, participated in the "ISO/ SASO Regional Workshop on Stakeholders Participation in International Standardization" which was organized by the Saudi Arabian Standards Organization from 15 to 16 -3- 1429H, in cooperation with the "International organization for Standardization", ISO. The workshop dealt with several aspects about standardization as:

شاركت الهيئة العامة للغذاء والدواء بورشة عمل حول قوانين وتشريعات الدراسات السريرية والتي عقدت بدولة تايلاند خلال الفترة من 17-21 مارس عام 2008 م. ومثل الهيئة بورشة العمل الدكتور/ عبدالمحسن بن حميد الرحيمي، مدير إدارة الأبحاث والنشر بقطاع الدواء، حيث قام بتقديم محاضرة حول قانون التجارب السريرية بالمملكة ودور الهيئة العامة للغذاء والدواء، كما تم مناقشة التجارب الدولية في هذا المجال.
وقد شارك بهذه الدورة متحدثون يمثلون قطاعات حكومية وخاصة من عدة دول مثل الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، كندا، ماليزيا، اندونيسيا، والفيتنام بالإضافة إلى الدولة المضيفة تايلاند.

The last poll raised in the SFDA intranet portal was about the awareness of website visitors about drugs side effects and if they concern about asking pharmacists about them. 43% of participants (which is the majority), do not ask about drugs side effects. 28% of them voted for yes, while 29% chose no; they do not ask.
The SFDA has issued numbers of educational leaflets related to food, drug and medical devices matters on its intranet portal aiming to provide safe, reliable and easy reached information.

On Monday 24th of March, 2008, The drug sector at the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) hosted a lecture about generic drugs. The lecture was presented by Dr. Sultan Ghani, the expert in quality assessment of generic drugs in Health Canada. The title of the lecture was (The Generic Drugs Program in Health Canada). Dr. Ghani showed the experience of Health Canada in the field of evaluation, regulation and registration of drugs.

The SFDA hosts Dr. Osama Fayyad, the Executive Vice President of Research and Strategic Data Solutions and Chief Data Officer of Yahoo! on Monday, 14-4-2008, in order to discuss means of cooperation in fields of developing information intranet portals and electronic publishing. In addition, Dr. Fayyad will deliver a lecture about modern tendencies in areas of information, publishing and electronic health, in the head quarter of the SFDA, and it will be attended by number of executive presidents, specialists and leaders work in relative companies.
