Saudi FDA Warns about some Paper Cups used for serving Drinks

Pursuant to its efforts in the field of ensuring safety of food and food containers surfaces, SFDA regularly examines food packing and wrapping materials available in the local market. Laboratory examinations revealed that some of the paper cups used for serving drinks are not suitable for this purpose as they do not conform with the standards of the wax-layer (polyethylene) lining these cups and to the type of paper used in their production

The said type of paper cups have the barcode 3101985520006, have a capacity of 60ml. and are produced by the Peoples Republic of China. No other information are indicated except for the country of origin, the barcode and the capacity of the paper cups ( )

SFDA advises consumers and restaurants not to purchase or use these products and dispose of them immediately. It also emphasizes that the symbol ( ) indicating ‘ good for food usage’, full information about the product e.g. product name, name and details of the producing or importing company, suitable usage of the product i.e. for hot or cold drinks , shall be considered.

Moreover, SFDA is coordinating with the respective authorities in order to take the necessary protective actions to ensure recall of this type of products from the local market at one hand; and ban their import to the Kingdom at the other hand.
