SFDA Warns about Herbal Products that are Promoted for Several Uses

Within the framework of SFDA programs for tracking , monitoring and control of the safety and security of drugs and herbal and cosmetic products, SFDA inspectors have recalled 16 products promoted in the local market with many deceiving medical alleges. SFDA has analyzed these products in its own Drug Sector’s Laboratories and found that many of these herbal products are counterfeit by addition of harmful and toxic substances.
Whereas these herbal products are marketed through proportion of alleged medical benefits that have not been validated to ensure their safety, security and efficacy ; while their source or extent of safety , security , content and quality level is unknown, and despite of their adverse impact on health and the serious diseases that may develop due to their use. Therefore, trading of these products is considered an explicit violation to the ‘Pharmaceutical Organizations & Products Regulations’, issued by the Royal Decree No. M/31 dated 1/6/1425H and its implementation bylaws. Accordingly, SFDA has addressed the concerned authorities to take the necessary actions to recall and ban selling of these products in the local markets and take the necessary disciplinary actions towards any entity selling or marketing these products.
