More Restricted Food Import Areas from Japan

In continuation of SFDA’s effort in following up updates about nuclear contamination in Japan, and according to the latest information received from the International Food Safety Network (INFOSAN), Government of Japan and EU represented by the Rapid Alarm System of Food & Feed (RASFF), US Food And Drug Authority ( USFDA) advising of the increase of nuclear polluted areas in Japan. Due to SFDA’s keenness in maintain safety and security of imported food and feed from Japan, it has expanded the restricted import areas to include 8 additional areas namely: Miyagi, Yamagata, Niigata, Nagano, Yamanashi, Saitama, Tokyo, Chiba) in addition to previously restricted areas which are: Fukushima , Ibaraki, Tochigi, , Gunma thus making the toral restricted import areas 12.
By this announcement, SFDA would like to assure consumers that the imported foods available in the local market are free from nuclear contamination and that SFDA assures that it continues following up of any updates in this regard in coordination with Nuclear Research Institute of KACST.
