The Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP), the body responsible for drafting the UK non-broadcast advertising code, has announced new rules for food and soft drink product advertisements to children. The new rues, designed to help protect children's health, recognize and respond to public concern about rising levels of childhood obesity. The rules will come into force on 1 July 2007.
The SFDA, represented by Prof. Ibrahim Al Mohizea, Vice President of Food Affairs, and Dr. Salah Al Miman, the Food Sector advisor, participated in the Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards 30TH Session which took place during the period 2-7, July, 2007 in Rome. The Session entitled "Codex alimentarius" was attended by other delegates from Saudi Arabia headed by Mr. Nabeel Ameen Mula, the General Director of the Saudi Standards and Meteorology.
The Food Sector of the SFDA, attended the 39th meeting of the committee on" Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS)". The meeting was held in William Robert Center in Geneva during the period 27-28 June, 2007.

Prof. Ibrahim Al Mohizea, V. President of Food Affairs and Dr.Mustafa A.Gassem Food Consnltant , participated in a workshop entitled "Workshop on Investment in Laboratories for Food Safety and Agricultural Health" taking place in Geneva, Switzerland during the period 15-16 November 2007. The Food Sector's participation comes as part of general interest in enhancing its overall performance with respect to food control functions and responsibilities
William John Tudor of John Tudor & Son, in Bridgend, South Wales was sentenced by Cardiff Crown Court on Friday to a year in jail for seven offences relating to a fatal outbreak of E.coli O157 in 2005.
The sentence emphasises the need for processors to follow the tougher food safety laws and more stringent requirements they increasingly have to follow since these came into effect beginning in 2004. It also indicates that regulators are taking a tougher line on breaches of food safety regulations.
